Finding “The God Place” in a Stressed-Out World

If I guessed that you’re reading this because you want real answers—practical ones that actually work—I’m probably not far off. Most of us are searching for a way to break free from the relentless weight of stress.

Stress is universal. Young or old, wealthy or struggling, from any culture or background—no one escapes it. Daily conflicts build into emotional, spiritual, and physical storms. Add to that the instability of our world, and it’s no surprise that pressure seems to grow faster than our capacity to manage it.

Naturally, we look for solutions. The world offers plenty: medication, exercise regimens, biofeedback, therapies, lifestyle hacks—everything from yogurt to yoga. Many of these have real value. But stress is not only psychological or physical. It also has deep spiritual roots. And that’s where many people overlook one of the most life-giving invitations available: God’s way of dealing with stress.
We do not have to be victims of it.

One Sunday morning, while walking my dog, a neighbor joined me with her dog. She mentioned she needed to hurry home to get ready for church. After a moment she asked what I planned to do that day. I told her I hoped to spend some time with God, asking for direction on a few decisions, and to read a book about the soul.
Without hesitation she said, “My soul is not at peace.”

I waited. Then she added, “My husband and I are facing some decisions. We think maybe a change in geography might relieve some of our stress.”

“Do you think changing locations will change what’s going on in your heart?” I asked gently. I felt prompted to say more: “Maybe God is using this season to invite you into a deeper relationship with him. That might involve moving… or it might not. But if you go to God about these decisions, he will guide you clearly and make your path smooth.”

She looked at me and asked, “How do you go to God?”

“You sit with him and share what’s on your mind,” I said. “It’s about relationship, not a formula. Let his peace rule in your heart. Peace is often the clearest gauge for making the next right decision.”

Her eyes widened. “These words make my soul feel 100 pounds lighter!” Then she stopped walking. “Are you saying I don’t need to go to church to meet with God?”
I assured her that God is present and available every hour of every day. Buildings, schedules, or geography don’t limit him.

She admitted she felt guilty for missing church and worried God would be disappointed.
In that moment, I realized she represents millions of people—seekers from every walk of life—searching for what I call the God place: that quiet, steady center where God meets us, guides us, and restores peace.

Seeking God isn’t complicated, but it is transformative. It opens us to his direction, his comfort, and his solutions to the stress we carry.
